Elo Ladder

Table tennis · FIFA · pool · darts · chess

Settle who's actually best.

Record a game in two taps. Elo Ladder does the maths behind chess ratings, so beating the leader counts for more than beating the new starter.

Free. No app to install: it lives on your home screen.

Who it's for

Any group that plays the same people again and again and argues about who's best.

The office table

Table tennis or pool at work. Pin the QR code by the table.

FIFA with mates

Every game on the sofa counts. Share the score card to the chat.

The pub team

Pool or darts, frames and legs add up.

The chess club

Win, draw or loss, rated like the real thing.

How it works

  1. Make a league, share the link

Drop the invite in the group chat. Mates who haven't signed up yet can be added as guests.

  2. Record a game in two taps

Tap who you played, set the score, done. The table shows what it'll do to both ratings before you save.

  3. The table settles it

Ratings, form and results update at once. Share the score card to WhatsApp, or pin the QR code by the table.

The app, screen by screen

A league table that argues back. Every result moves both players by how surprising it was: an upset against the leader is worth far more than a win against the bottom.

Record a game in two taps

Pick who you played, set the score, save. The table does the rest.

You're already picked. Tap who you played: the people you played last come first, guests too.
Set the score with + and −, or type it. Before you save, it shows what the game does to both ratings.
Save, and the table is worked out again. Tom goes top. Share sends the score card to the group chat.

Living with it

Results land in the group chat, the table goes on the wall, and mistakes come out.

Share a result and it lands in the chat as a score card. Anyone can open it, no account needed.
The table link, or the QR code by the table, opens the league for anyone. No sign-in to look.
Wrong score? If you recorded it, for 10 minutes tap Fix to change it or delete it; a delete can be undone. Whoever made the league can fix any result, any time.

Every sport, its own look

Each league wears its sport's look and a crest: a built-in badge, or a picture you upload. Same table, five looks.

Table tennis The table: deep blue, a white rail, the orange ball.
FIFA The stadium at night: floodlit stripes, a yellow-card leader.
Pool The hall: green baize, a wooden rail, brass.
Darts The oche: board red and green, scores chalked.
Chess The club: walnut and ivory, a checkered band.

Prefer one look everywhere? Pick Scoreboard, LED board or Broadcast in Settings → Theme.

Questions

What's an Elo rating?

A number that says how good you are, the way chess has done it for decades. Everyone starts at 1000.

Every result moves points from one player to the other. How many depends on how surprising it was: beat someone far above you and you gain a lot; beat someone far below you and you gain a little.

Why did I only get a few points for winning?

You were expected to win. If you're 200 points above someone, beating them is worth about half what beating an equal is worth. Lose to them, though, and it costs you three times what the win would have gained.

In pool and darts each frame or leg counts on its own, so winning 3–2 against someone far below you can still cost you points.

Does the score matter, or just who won?

It depends on the sport. In table tennis and FIFA a bigger win adds a bit more, up to a limit, so 11–2 beats 11–9 but one thrashing can't make a season. In pool and darts every frame or leg counts. Chess is win, draw or loss.

Why does it say I'm unranked?

Your first 3 games (frames or legs in pool and darts) settle where you belong, so you're on the table but without a place until then. Your rating still moves from the first game.

Do my mates need an account?

No. Add them as guests and record their games straight away. If they want to join later, send them their personal link and they keep every game they've played.

Who can record results?

Anyone in the league with an account, unless whoever made it has turned off “All players can record results” (in League settings). Then only they can.

I recorded the wrong score. Can I fix it?

Yes, for 10 minutes: tap Fix next to the result to change the score or delete it. After that, ask whoever made the league; they can fix any result, any time. A deleted result can be brought back with Undo for a few seconds. Every rating is worked out again from all the results, so a fix puts everyone right.

Who can see my league?

Its players. Anyone else only sees its names and results if a player shares its table link, its QR code or a result. An invite or guest link shows the league's name, how many play, and who made the league or added you.

Is it free? Do I need to install anything?

It's free. It runs in your browser; add it to your home screen and it opens full screen like an app.

What do you keep about me?

Your name, your email, the games you play, and logs to keep it running. Feedback you send goes to our GitLab with your name, email, phone and browser. You can delete your account in Settings: your name and email go, and your games stay in each league as "Former player". Read the privacy page for where it's kept and for how long.

The guestbook league

Have a go, no account needed: sign your name, record a table tennis game against anyone in the demo league and watch the table move. It wipes clean every Monday.
